The fictional city of Westport tested a reduced-fare shuttle service in six neighborhoods. Officials reported that almost all current passengers welcomed the new fares. However, the survey included only people who had used the shuttle during its first month. The results therefore did not indicate whether residents without nearby stops could access the service.

The authority said the trial primarily benefited people working evening shifts. Some supporters interpreted this to mean that no other residents had used the service. The project report did not make that claim. Rather, it showed that evening workers formed the largest group of regular passengers, while occasional users included students and caregivers.

At most twenty additional trips could be provided each evening without hiring another driver. The authority considered expanding the timetable, but officials emphasized that the budget covered at least three further months of the existing trial, not a permanent expansion. A revised schedule would be approved only if the transport team established that reliable connections could be maintained.

An independent evaluator urged the authority to study who remained unable to travel. Reservation numbers alone, she argued, merely indicated activity among existing passengers. The city decided to retain the current trial while collecting evidence about unique users, travel barriers, costs, and the reliability of possible new routes.

  • (A) Almost every resident in Westport supported the program.
  • (B) Nearly all surveyed existing passengers supported the reduced fares.
  • (C) The city had measured every nonuser’s needs.
  • (D) All six neighborhoods had identical access.

Q2:What does ‘primarily benefited’ imply in the second paragraph?

  • (A) Every beneficiary worked an evening shift.
  • (B) No students were allowed to use the shuttle.
  • (C) The program had stopped serving caregivers.
  • (D) Evening workers were the main beneficiaries, not necessarily the only ones.

Q3:How many additional evening trips could be offered without another driver?

  • (A) No more than twenty.
  • (B) At least twenty-five.
  • (C) More than thirty.
  • (D) Exactly forty.

Q4:What was required before the revised schedule could be approved?

  • (A) The first survey had to include only evening workers.
  • (B) All residents had to support the plan.
  • (C) The team had to demonstrate that connections would remain reliable.
  • (D) The city had to cancel the existing trial.

The fictional Riverton Research Network developed a shared digital archive for environmental measurements. The first report stated that nearly all participating laboratories had submitted basic summaries. Some readers interpreted the figure as proof that every laboratory had released its full dataset, although the report carefully distinguished summaries from raw measurements.

Several datasets contained precise locations of vulnerable habitats. Such records were accessible exclusively to approved researchers, whereas general findings were public. Officials argued that this arrangement protected sensitive information while allowing others to understand the main results. Public downloads were largely concentrated on the general summaries, but that did not mean sensitive files were scientifically unimportant.

An external review found that at least forty requests for detailed access had been received during the first stage. No more than twelve were approved before the review ended. The remaining requests were still under consideration or required additional information; the report did not describe all of them as permanently rejected. Further access would be authorized only after researchers demonstrated a legitimate purpose and suitable safeguards.

The reviewers supported continuing the archive but cautioned against judging its scientific value solely by downloads. They proposed assessing whether independent teams could reproduce findings, how long approval procedures took, and whether privacy measures worked. The board agreed to revise the process rather than abolish controlled access.

Q5:What had nearly all laboratories submitted?

  • (A) Complete unrestricted datasets.
  • (B) Every individual measurement taken since the archive was founded.
  • (C) At least one basic summary, not necessarily a full dataset.
  • (D) Verified proof that all studies were reproducible.

Q6:Who could access detailed habitat locations?

  • (A) Only approved researchers.
  • (B) Every anonymous visitor.
  • (C) Only officials from the city council.
  • (D) Anyone who downloaded a public summary.

Q7:How many detailed-data requests were approved before the review ended?

  • (A) At least forty.
  • (B) Exactly fifty.
  • (C) Every application submitted.
  • (D) No more than twelve.

Q8:What did the board ultimately decide?

  • (A) To release all sensitive records without further review.
  • (B) To improve the controlled-access process rather than eliminate it.
  • (C) To permanently deny every outstanding request.
  • (D) To judge research value by download totals alone.
