Q1. What will the woman change?

  • A. Remove a speculative claim from the display label while retaining it as a hypothesis.
  • B. Cancel publication of every photograph.
  • C. Describe every fragment as a ceremonial object.
  • D. Replace the original fragment with a replica.

Woman: We need to publish the excavation photographs by Friday. Has the museum approved the captions? Man: Most of them, but one label describes a pottery fragment as a ceremonial object without evidence. Woman: Could we say it may have been used in ceremonies? Man: That would be accurate as a possibility, but the curator wants the fragment’s verified description first. Woman: I’ll revise the label and leave the hypothesis in the research notes.

会話2

Q2. What is the current status of the room?

  • A. It has been permanently closed.
  • B. Its use is pending a safety decision from the facilities team.
  • C. It has been reserved without any conditions.
  • D. The event has already been canceled.

Man: Can I reserve the community workshop room for Monday evening? Woman: The booking calendar shows it is free, but the ventilation system will be inspected that day. Man: Does that mean the reservation is canceled? Woman: Not yet. The facilities team will confirm by noon on Friday whether the room is safe to use. Man: I’ll keep our participants informed and avoid sending a final venue notice until then.

会話3

Q3. Why does the man question the recovery claim?

  • A. No volunteers had visited the park.
  • B. The species had become extinct.
  • C. Changes in reporting could explain part of the increase.
  • D. The newsletter was released before any sightings.

Woman: The wildlife newsletter says there were twice as many sightings of rare birds this year. Is the population recovering? Man: Possibly, but the park also recruited hundreds of new volunteers and introduced a phone reporting tool. Woman: So we know reports increased, not necessarily the number of birds. Man: Exactly. We need comparable surveys from fixed locations before making a population claim.

会話4

Q4. What must happen before the sensors can be ordered?

  • A. The researchers must cancel their project.
  • B. The grant must be spent entirely on salaries.
  • C. The technicians must resign.
  • D. The supplier must pass the procurement check after salaries are removed.

Man: Our project grant is for equipment, so I included two technicians’ salaries in the purchase request. Woman: The grant covers instruments but not personnel. You’ll need a separate staffing proposal. Man: If I remove the salaries, can I order the sensors now? Woman: Yes, provided the supplier passes the standard procurement check. Man: I’ll separate the requests and submit the order for review.

会話5

Q5. What change is proposed?

  • A. Offer paper responses as an additional option and report recruitment methods.
  • B. Discard all online responses.
  • C. Assume that every resident has internet access.
  • D. Close the consultation before paper forms arrive.

Woman: The town wants an online-only survey about library services. Man: That would be convenient, but it might miss residents who have no internet access. Woman: The public office could accept paper forms for another week. Man: Good. We should report the online and paper responses separately so readers know how the participants were recruited.

会話6

Q6. What does the woman want the evaluation to measure?

  • A. The number of new computers purchased.
  • B. Time to final resolution, including appeals and corrections.
  • C. How many applications were submitted on paper last year.
  • D. Only the speed of initial automated decisions.

Man: Our new software processed applications faster than before. Does that show the residents received help sooner? Woman: Not necessarily. Some applications were rejected automatically and required lengthy appeals. Man: Then processing time isn’t the same as time to final resolution. Woman: Exactly. We should record completed cases, successful corrections, and the time people spent waiting after a decision was challenged.

会話7

Q7. What should the museum guide explain?

  • A. That every reconstructed color is historically certain.
  • B. That the mural was never restored.
  • C. The distinction between surviving paint and speculative reconstruction.
  • D. That earlier photographs are irrelevant.

Woman: The restored mural looks vivid now. Are the original colors certain? Man: No. The restorers removed a later layer of varnish, but some pigments had faded and the earliest records don’t specify every color. Woman: So our guide should distinguish observed paint from reconstructed areas. Man: Yes, and link to photographs taken before the treatment.

会話8

Q8. What is the likely alternative plan?

  • A. Cancel all discussion permanently.
  • B. Perform the chemical demonstration without ventilation.
  • C. Ignore the forecast completely.
  • D. Move the discussion indoors and replace the demonstration with a video.

Man: The new outdoor lecture starts at two, but rain is expected. Could we move everything into the laboratory? Woman: We can move the discussion inside, but the chemical demonstration cannot take place there without extra ventilation. Man: Then we should replace that demonstration with a video and keep the discussion. Woman: I’ll confirm the final arrangement tomorrow morning.

会話9

Q9. How will the woman revise the report?

  • A. Mention other changes that might have affected complaints.
  • B. Claim the hotline alone eliminated noise.
  • C. Exclude all complaint figures.
  • D. Assert that night construction increased.

Woman: The city says its program reduced complaints about noisy construction. Man: Did the construction schedule change at the same time? Woman: Yes, fewer sites operated at night. Man: Then we can’t attribute the decrease entirely to the complaint hotline. Woman: You’re right. I’ll describe the trend and the schedule changes rather than making a firm causal claim.

会話10

Q10. What can library users still do?

  • A. Enter the closed reading room until seven.
  • B. Collect reserved books at a temporary desk.
  • C. Use all equipment in the repair area.
  • D. Supervise the repair workers.

Man: The reading room now closes at six, but the repair team needs to work until seven. Shall we ask visitors to stay while they finish? Woman: No, the repair area must be empty for safety. We can allow people to collect reserved books at the temporary desk near the entrance, but not enter the reading room. Man: I’ll explain both conditions in the notice.

Q11. Why did the researchers question the shipping-activity claim?

  • A. Improved detection could increase recorded signals without more ships.
  • B. Every underwater sensor had failed.
  • C. No vessel-position data existed anywhere.
  • D. Shipping was legally prohibited in the region.

Q12. What was the response to the preliminary figures?

  • A. A permanent ban on all ships.
  • B. The termination of acoustic monitoring.
  • C. Continued monitoring with comparable calibration and records.
  • D. The destruction of all vessel data.

The fictional Ocean Mapping Institute placed improved acoustic sensors on a coastal seabed to monitor changes in underwater sounds. During the first month, the devices recorded many more events than the previous generation of instruments had detected. Several commentators described the rise as evidence of a sudden increase in shipping activity. Scientists explained that newer equipment had better sensitivity and could distinguish signals that earlier machines treated as background noise. Weather and the position of each sensor also affected recordings. The team compared samples with independent vessel-position reports, while noting that those reports did not cover every small boat. Officials decided to continue observation using consistent calibration and environmental records rather than impose restrictions based on the initial counts alone.

Q13. What was the main translation problem?

  • A. The museum used only one language worldwide.
  • B. Certain statements became stronger than the original evidence justified.
  • C. Every label was entirely accurate.
  • D. The collection contained no scientific information.

Q14. What did the museum board approve?

  • A. Immediate permanent expansion to every exhibit.
  • B. Complete elimination of translations.
  • C. The disposal of original observations.
  • D. A further limited evaluation of comprehension and accuracy.

An imaginary science museum introduced multilingual exhibit labels for international visitors. The new material attracted interest, but a review found that some automatically translated sentences changed the level of certainty of scientific claims. A phrase describing a possible explanation appeared as though it were an established fact. Another label omitted the condition that an observation applied only to one species. The museum asked qualified translators and subject specialists to check important statements, and it recorded the reasons for revisions. School groups were later asked to compare original observations with the translated explanations. The museum did not interpret an increase in visitor counts as proof of improved comprehension. Its board approved another limited evaluation before extending the translated labels throughout the collection.

Q15. Why were registration totals insufficient?

  • A. No classes had been offered.
  • B. Every learner completed a workplace test.
  • C. Registrations did not establish distinct learners or practical skills.
  • D. Employment had already been measured for every participant.

Q16. What access measure was added?

  • A. Downloadable lessons and a limited face-to-face option.
  • B. A requirement that every resident buy a new phone.
  • C. The removal of all evening classes.
  • D. A permanent exclusion of people without internet.

The imaginary Eastern Training Partnership offered free evening online classes for adults seeking new professional skills. Registrations grew rapidly after local media coverage, and organizers initially described the increase as evidence of better employment prospects. Evaluators cautioned that some people signed up for several classes while others left before final assessments. The partnership began reporting unique learners, completion, and task performance separately. Participants then completed realistic workplace exercises to test skills beyond memorized vocabulary. However, improved employment could not yet be established because long-term outcomes had not been collected. The partnership also offered downloadable lessons and a small in-person option for residents with unreliable internet access. It continued a limited pilot while examining costs and practical results.

Q17. What limited the conclusion of island-wide recovery?

  • A. The pilot had been conducted over many decades.
  • B. Every location was monitored under identical weather.
  • C. All predators had already become extinct.
  • D. The observations covered selected areas in a relatively mild season.

Q18. What was the council’s decision?

  • A. Approve permanent intervention throughout the island.
  • B. Extend the pilot and request independent comparisons.
  • C. Stop monitoring the effects on other animals.
  • D. Guarantee that predators would never return.

A fictional island partnership tested methods for protecting seabird nesting areas from an introduced predator. During one season, field workers recorded fewer predators and higher nest survival near selected sites. Some observers claimed that the island’s entire seabird population was recovering. The conservationists warned that the results were local, the weather had been mild, and long-term recolonization remained possible. The partnership adjusted fieldwork near beaches used by residents and tourists and monitored unintended effects on other animals. It also recognized that ships might bring new predators, requiring continued port inspections. The council extended the pilot and requested independent comparisons rather than approve permanent action across the entire island.

Q19. What concern did historians raise?

  • A. Some reconstructed visual details were not fully supported by original evidence.
  • B. No films were available to restore.
  • C. All viewers refused to attend.
  • D. The original scans had never been preserved.

Q20. What did the board decide?

  • A. Release every film without further review.
  • B. Treat screening attendance as proof of learning.
  • C. Continue limited exhibition and assess accuracy before broad restoration.
  • D. Abandon all preservation work permanently.

An imaginary archive restored damaged documentary films for public screenings. Digital tools removed scratches and improved the clarity of some scenes, attracting greater attention from schools. Yet certain colors and details had to be reconstructed from incomplete evidence. Historians worried that viewers would mistake an attractive image for a verified record of the past. The archive labeled speculative features, preserved original scans, and documented corrections. Evaluators also pointed out that greater attendance did not demonstrate improved historical understanding, particularly because schools had introduced additional lessons during the same period. The governing board continued a limited exhibition and postponed restoring the entire collection pending independent review.

Q26. How does the researcher regard visitor and booking figures?

  • A. They indicate demand but do not necessarily establish benefits.
  • B. They should never be collected.
  • C. They prove all users achieved the intended outcomes.
  • D. They can replace all other forms of evaluation.

Q27. What is the researcher’s position on urgent temporary action?

  • A. It is always forbidden until evidence is perfect.
  • B. It permanently establishes that the policy succeeds.
  • C. It removes the need to monitor harm.
  • D. It may be justified with monitoring and a scheduled review.

Interviewer: You study how public organizations communicate research findings. What is a mistake you see repeatedly?

Researcher: Many reports use a convenient number as evidence of a different outcome. A museum might count visitors, for example, but visits do not tell us what people learned. Similarly, the number of appointments booked does not show how many people received effective help.

Interviewer: Are those numbers still useful?

Researcher: Certainly. They indicate interest or demand. The problem arises when someone claims that high use automatically demonstrates an improvement. We should choose measures that answer the question we care about and explain what the figures leave unknown.

Interviewer: What happens when several things change during a trial?

Researcher: We must be cautious about causal claims. If a school introduces a new learning platform at the same time as additional teaching, improvements cannot be credited entirely to the software without further analysis. Comparisons and clear documentation can help.

Interviewer: Some officials argue that extensive evaluation delays urgently needed action.

Researcher: In an emergency, provisional measures may be appropriate, even with incomplete information. But they should be monitored, and a review date should be set. A justified temporary decision is not proof that an intervention will work in every setting.

Interviewer: What should a short public summary contain?

Researcher: It should state what was measured, which people or places were included, and what remains uncertain. If an important interpretation changes, organizations should publish a correction. Trust is stronger when people can see how conclusions were reached.

A:They indicate demand but do not necessarily establish benefits.。demand not learning or outcomes。

D:It may be justified with monitoring and a scheduled review.。provisional emergency action with monitoring review。
