It is good. It is convenient.

TOPIC1|Should municipalities invest more in community tool-lending programmes?

I support carefully designed community tool-lending programmes, although I would not recommend unlimited public spending on them. Many households need specialized equipment only occasionally, so shared access can offer advantages when demand and maintenance are properly assessed.

First, lending programmes may reduce unnecessary purchases. For example, a family could borrow a measuring instrument for a single home improvement project instead of buying one that would remain unused for years. This may conserve resources, although the overall environmental effect depends on how frequently the equipment is repaired or replaced.

Second, shared services can improve access for residents with limited budgets. Buying specialist tools may be difficult to justify when they are needed only once. A public borrowing scheme gives those residents an alternative, provided that opening hours and reservation procedures are practical.

Third, a well-managed programme could support useful learning. Trained staff might explain safe operation and help borrowers select suitable equipment. This guidance can build practical skills rather than merely transferring ownership costs to a public institution.

Critics may argue that damage, staffing and storage make these programmes expensive. Those concerns are legitimate. Municipalities should begin with a limited selection of items, publish usage data and compare the benefits with operating expenses. Under those conditions, shared tool services deserve serious consideration.

TOPIC2|Should schools make evidence evaluation a compulsory part of the curriculum?

I believe schools should make basic evidence evaluation a regular part of secondary education. Students often encounter convincing graphs, advertisements and online claims, but familiar words and attractive images do not guarantee reliable information.

First, evidence evaluation can improve everyday decisions. A student comparing two claims about a product should know how to check whether the figures cover similar groups and periods. These habits may prevent misleading comparisons from being accepted without question.

Second, the subject can strengthen public discussion. For example, a local transport proposal might report a rise in passenger numbers without explaining changes in service frequency. Students who understand the distinction between observed results and causal explanations will be better prepared to ask relevant questions.

Third, practical evaluation exercises can support future learning. Teachers could give students a short unfamiliar research report and ask them to identify its main claim, evidence and limitations. This requires them to apply reasoning rather than reproduce memorized definitions.

Some educators may worry that introducing another compulsory topic would place pressure on an already crowded timetable. That concern deserves attention. Schools could integrate brief evidence-checking activities into science, mathematics and language lessons instead of creating a large separate course. With manageable implementation, evidence evaluation should become a consistent educational priority.
