Paragraph 1
At North Valley School, a class planned to visit a town museum for an English project. The museum workshop would begin at nine on Saturday morning. The school was outside the town center, so several students wanted to use a bus from the station. The transport office had published a small timetable for a fictional route called Route Seven. On ordinary weekdays, buses left the station at seven forty, eight ten, and eight forty. On Saturdays, the departures were eight o’clock and nine o’clock. No Route Seven bus operated on Sundays or official holidays. The journey from the station to the museum stop normally took twenty-five minutes, and the walk from that stop to the museum took another ten minutes. The teacher asked the students to calculate when each bus would get them to the museum, rather than looking only at the departure time.

Paragraph 2
For Saturday’s visit, the students compared the two departures. The eight o’clock bus would normally reach the museum stop at eight twenty-five. After a ten-minute walk, visitors could arrive at eight thirty-five, twenty-five minutes before the workshop. The nine o’clock bus, however, would not reach the stop until nine twenty-five. Walking would bring students to the museum at nine thirty-five, thirty-five minutes after the workshop began. One student said that a bus leaving at nine was suitable because the event also began at nine. The teacher corrected the comparison. Departure from the station was not arrival at the museum. The class decided that the earlier bus was the only scheduled Route Seven departure that could bring them to the workshop before nine. Even that calculation assumed the journey would take its normal time.

Paragraph 3
The next week, a different group planned to visit the museum on a Friday. Its leader looked at the weekday timetable and chose the eight ten departure. Then the teacher pointed out that the chosen Friday was an official holiday in the town’s calendar. The notice said Route Seven would not operate on official holidays, even when a holiday fell on a weekday. A student argued that Friday was always a weekday and therefore the bus must run. The teacher replied that the holiday exception overrode the ordinary weekday schedule. The group checked the current official notice instead of copying a route plan from the previous week. It did not invent another bus time because no suitable alternative had yet been confirmed. The students learned that the day name alone was not enough to decide which timetable applied.

Paragraph 4
For the Saturday workshop, the teacher also asked what would happen if the eight o’clock bus was delayed. The twenty-five-minute margin before the event was useful, but it was not a guarantee of arrival. If traffic or bad weather added thirty minutes to the usual journey, the students might reach the museum at nine oh five, five minutes after the start. One volunteer suggested checking a second route, but the class had not obtained an official timetable for it. Another proposed asking families to arrange an earlier journey if necessary. The teacher said that any alternative had to be checked with the people responsible for travel arrangements. The group prepared two columns in its plan: ‘confirmed schedule’ and ‘possible backup.’ It did not place an unverified suggestion in the confirmed column.

Paragraph 5
In their final English report, the students showed a timeline for the normal Saturday journey: departure at eight, arrival at the museum stop at eight twenty-five, and arrival at the museum at eight thirty-five. They added a separate warning about holiday exceptions and possible delays. The report clearly stated that the times belonged to a fictional route used for classroom practice, not to a real public bus service. The teacher asked them to identify the difference between a planned arrival and an arrival that had actually been recorded. No class trip had taken place during the exercise, so all the arrival times were calculations based on the stated timetable. The students concluded that practical English reading required attention to exceptions, different stages of a journey, and the difference between a schedule and a confirmed event.

Paragraph 1
Paragraph 2
Paragraph 3
Paragraph 4
Paragraph 5
