1. prior to＋名詞／動名詞：prior to the meeting（会議前に）。prior to doではなくprior to doingとする。
2. following＋名詞：following the announcement（発表後に）。afterに近いが文章語的。動詞followの現在分詞とも区別する。
3. throughout＋期間・場所：throughout the rehearsal（リハーサルの全期間を通じて）。単なる『ある時点で』ではない。
4. meanwhile：副詞で『その間に／一方で』。Meanwhile, another group prepared the room. 別の活動の同時進行に使う。
