架空の学校での登録画面・修正通知・集計結果を読み、required(必須)、optional(任意)、permission(許可)、withdraw(撤回)の意味を独自24問で確認します。
registration=参加申込、optional=任意、permission=許可、withdraw=撤回。『参加する』『撮影される』『公開される』は別々の段階です。英語では、主語が誰か・どの選択肢についてのYesか・最新の許可状態がどうかを確認します。
Riverside School created a fictional registration form for a student research presentation. The form had three separate choices. First, participants had to enter a name and class to register for the event. Second, students could choose whether to appear in photographs taken during the presentation; this choice was optional. Third, they could separately permit the school to publish selected photographs on a project webpage. The written instructions explained that agreeing to be photographed did not automatically mean agreeing to public posting. A student could participate without giving either photography or publication permission. The teacher asked the class to identify which information was required for the event and which choices belonged to each person. The exercise used invented rules for English reading practice, not the official policy of any real school.

On Monday, a student named Akira completed the required name and class fields. He selected ‘No’ for photography and ‘No’ for publication. The registration system accidentally showed his entry as incomplete because the photograph box had not been marked ‘Yes.’ The project teacher checked the original instructions and found that the system had applied the wrong rule. Photography was optional, so Akira’s event registration should have been complete. The teacher corrected the system and sent a message explaining the difference between registering for an event and permitting images to be used. Another student, Yuna, selected ‘Yes’ for photography but ‘No’ for publication. Her choices allowed the project team to photograph her during the activity under the fictional form, but they did not permit the team to post her picture on the project webpage.

Before the final presentation, the class counted the responses to the separate publication-permission question. Twenty students had registered, but only twelve had selected ‘Yes’ for publication. Five had selected ‘No,’ and three had not answered that optional question. The team calculated that twelve out of twenty, or sixty percent, had given publication permission at that time. It did not report that sixty percent of all students in the school had agreed, because the count came only from registered participants. The teacher also reminded the team that permission could be withdrawn before publication under the fictional project’s rules. Therefore, the list needed another check before any photograph was posted. In the final English report, students described the registered group, the exact question asked, and the limits of the count rather than claiming universal agreement.

Twenty students had registered
|本文:twelve … Yes
Five … No
|本文:three … had not answered
A21. 60%。|本文:twelve out of twenty, or sixty percent
A22. |本文:only from registered participants
A23. |本文:permission could be withdrawn
