nominateは候補者を推薦する、electは投票などによって役職に選ぶ、appointは権限のある人が役職に任命する、selectは候補の中から選ぶ、vote forは支持する候補へ投票することです。候補となっただけで当選したわけではない、投票しただけで役職が決まったわけではない、という区別を身につけます。

語法・意味の4つの判断基準
1. nominate A for B：Aを役職Bの候補へ推薦する。推薦は当選・任命ではない。

3. appoint A to B / appoint A as B：権限を持つ人が役職へ任命する。appointed by the principal など。
4. select A from B / vote for A：選択と投票行動。票を投じた人がいたことと当選結果は別。

A school council needed a new chairperson and two project assistants. At the first meeting, members nominated four students for chairperson. On Thursday, thirty students voted, and the votes were counted under the teacher’s supervision. Yui received eighteen votes, Ken eight, and the other two candidates received two each. Yui was elected chairperson. The principal then appointed one teacher as an adviser, because that role was not decided by student voting. Finally, Yui and the adviser selected two assistants from five volunteers after checking their schedules. A student reported that all four nominated candidates had become chairperson.
