A school library had one copy of a popular science novel. On Monday morning, it was checked out to a student named Riku, who was expected to return it on Thursday. Aya requested the next available copy at nine on Monday. Ken joined the waiting list at ten, and Mina joined it at eleven. The librarian explained that being first on the waiting list did not mean a book was ready to collect. The library would send a separate message when a returned copy had been checked and placed on hold. According to the fictional library procedure, each student would have until five in the afternoon on the next day the library was open to collect a reserved copy. Because Sunday was a closed day, Ken’s collection deadline was five on Monday, the next day the library was open. Mina remained on the waiting list. A student who read only the Monday list incorrectly told Mina that she should collect the book on Friday.
