  3. However、but、still、thereforeなどの接続語から条件や限界を探す。

1|Sleep and learning

Original passage: Sleep supports learning. Students who sleep enough often find it easier to pay attention and remember what they studied. Staying up late to review one more chapter may leave a student too tired to focus the next day. A short plan made earlier in the evening can help students finish important work and prepare for sleep. A good plan balances practice, rest, and daily responsibilities.

  1. 問1. What is the main idea?
  2. 問2. Name one supporting detail.
  3. 問3. What may happen if students stay up late?
  4. 問4. What does the passage recommend balancing?
  5. 問5. Does it say the longest study time is always best?
  6. 問6. What does pay attention mean?
  7. 問7. Which idea is a detail, not the main point?
  8. 問8. Why is rest relevant to learning?
  9. 問9. Summarize the passage in 25–35 words.
  10. 問10. Explain why one example cannot represent the whole paragraph.

英文2|Choosing books in a library

Original passage: A library display can help students discover books they would not choose on their own. Displays about science, sports, history, and fiction give readers several starting points. Short descriptions help students decide whether a book matches their interests. However, a display is useful only when students can read the titles and descriptions easily. The librarian therefore checks the arrangement and asks students which topics they would like to see next.

  1. 問11. What is the main idea?
  2. 問12. Give two examples of supporting details.
  3. 問13. What condition is introduced by However?
  4. 問14. What two things does the librarian do?
  5. 問15. Are science and sports the main idea or examples?
  6. 問16. What does fiction mean?
  7. 問17. Why must the display be easy to read?
  8. 問18. Which answer would be too narrow as a main idea?
  9. 問19. Summarize in 25–35 words.
  10. 問20. State the main idea in Japanese.

英文3|Reusable bottles

Original passage: Using a reusable water bottle can reduce the number of disposable bottles a student buys. It may also save money over time. Still, a reusable bottle must be cleaned regularly, and some students may not have easy access to drinking water during the day. Schools that encourage reusable bottles should provide clear information about cleaning and refill locations. The change works better when students have both the equipment and the information they need.

  1. 問21. What is the main idea?
  2. 問22. Name one possible benefit.
  3. 問23. What two limits are mentioned?
  4. 問24. What information should schools provide?
  5. 問25. What does the change refer to?
  6. 問26. Why is refill access important?
  7. 問27. Does the text say reusable bottles solve every problem?
  8. 問28. What detail supports the main idea?
  9. 問29. Summarize in 25–35 words.
  10. 問30. Explain how the conditions limit the claim.

英文4|A small survey

Original passage: A student team surveyed twelve classmates about how they preferred to study. Seven liked working alone, while five preferred group study. One member concluded that most students at the school wanted to study alone. Their teacher noted that the survey included only twelve classmates from one year group. The results described those respondents, but could not confidently represent the whole school. The team decided to ask students from several year groups and report both the number of responses and the survey’s limits.

  1. 問31. What is the main idea?
  2. 問32. How many students were surveyed?
  3. 問33. How many preferred studying alone?
  4. 問34. What limitation did the teacher identify?
  5. 問35. What does the results refer to?
  6. 問36. Can the team confidently generalize to the whole school?
  7. 問37. What should the team do next?
  8. 問38. Which is a detail rather than the main idea?
  9. 問39. Summarize in 25–35 words.
  10. 問40. Translate the central warning into English.

NEW TREASURE
