結論｜If I wereとI wishは『今と異なる想像』を表せる

• 現実の未来条件：If it rains tomorrow, we will stay indoors.
• 仮定法過去：If I were the guide, I would explain the map.
• 可能性：If I had a map, I could help you.
• 現在の願望：I wish I had more time.
• 能力の願望：I wish I could speak more clearly.

『仮定法過去』という名前でも、過去の時点だけについて話すわけではありません。現在の事実と異なる状況を過去形などで想像する用法です。学校ではまずIf I were … would/could …という標準的な形を確実にしましょう。

週7時間の英語・英会話と文法の進度は別に確認

学校公式には、英語は英会話2時間を含む週7時間、英検の学年・級に応じた支援などが紹介されています。ただし、この40問が正式な学校課題であることや、どの学年・時期に仮定法を学ぶかは確認できません。新潟清心女子中の学校英語対策で現在の学校教材を確認し、英検3級面接の独自30問などの級別学習とは目的を分けてください。

現実条件と仮定法の早見表

英文を分類する4ステップ

1. 条件が現実的な可能性か、事実と違う想像かを確認。
2. 現実の未来条件はif節に現在形、主節にwillやcanなどを用いる。
3. 仮定法過去ならif＋過去形、主節にwould/could＋原形などを用いる。
4. I wishでは今と異なる願望を過去形・couldで表す。

If I knew the date, I could explain it.は、今は知らないという仮定です。一方If I find the document, I will check the date.は現実に見つけられる可能性を表します。

第4部｜英語での意見交換を題材にした創作長文（10問）（問31〜40）

At a fictional junior high school, students were preparing a small exhibition about community services. They had several photographs of a local library, but one image had no confirmed date. Mika said, “If we knew the year, we could explain the changes more accurately.” Her friend answered, “I wish we had a reliable record, but we should not invent a date.” The group checked the available documents and marked the picture as uncertain. Another student examined a map with very small letters. She said, “If the letters were larger, more visitors could understand the directions.” Unlike the missing historical record, the size of the letters was something the students could change. They prepared a clearer map.
