手順書を読むときの4つの着眼点

• First／Next／After：作業の順番。何を先に行うか特定する。
• Before／Only after：次の作業の前に済ませる条件があるかを確認する。
• Must／Must not／May：義務・禁止・許可を混同しない。
• ByとAt：by 3:45 p.m.はその時刻までに、at 4:00 p.m.はその時刻にという違い。

例えば Do not print the poster until the teacher has approved it. は「承認されるまでは印刷しない」です。Print it, and then ask the teacher. とは順番が逆です。手順の文章は英語の小さな読み違いが行動の誤りにつながるため、条件を省略せずに読みます。

解き方｜4題×10問・全文無料

4つのオリジナル英文を読み、各問いに短い英語で答えます。完了済み・予定・許可待ちのどれなのかを区別し、可能なら根拠となる本文の一節も探してください。1問1点・40点満点は慶英会の自習用目安です。学校の正式な出題形式や採点方法とは異なります。

第1題｜学校の科学発表会｜登録・下書き・承認・発表の順序（Q1〜Q10）

独自英文：The science committee sent instructions to students who wanted to join the annual school science fair. First, each group had to register online by Monday at noon and name a teacher who would supervise the project. A group could choose its topic before registering, but registration was required before submitting a project summary. Once registered, members had to upload a one-page summary by Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. The summary needed to include their research question and a description of how they would collect information. The supervising teacher would check the summary for safety and clarity. If changes were required, the group had to correct the document and resubmit it. Groups were not allowed to print display posters until the supervising teacher had approved their final summary. Poster files could then be sent to the school office by Friday at noon. On the day of the fair, students had to arrive by 8:40 a.m. to prepare their displays. Visitors would enter at 9:30 a.m. Any group that had not received teacher approval had to wait before displaying its project, even if its poster was ready. The committee asked everyone to follow the latest emailed instructions instead of an old notice that mentioned a different room. The final room assignments would be announced on Thursday after the teacher checks were complete.

第2題｜図書室の本の交換会｜チェックイン・交換・返却（Q11〜Q20）

独自英文：The library committee prepared a book-exchange event. Students had to sign up by Tuesday at noon to receive a place. Registration was free, but it did not automatically give students permission to photograph others. Each participant could bring up to two books in good condition. Before the event, the librarian would check whether the books were suitable for the intended age group. Damaged books were not accepted, and students were not allowed to leave books outside the locked library. Registered students had to arrive at Room 205 by 3:45 p.m. The exchange would begin at 4:00 p.m. First, each student would show a school ID at the desk. 第3題｜学校の小さな植物実験｜準備・測定・記録の条件（Q21〜Q30）

独自英文：The gardening club planned an experiment about bean plants. The students first had to ask their science teacher which part of the garden they could use. They were not allowed to move school equipment without permission. After the teacher approved a location, the group would prepare two sets of the same kind of pots, seeds and soil. The students would label the pots before planting anything so that they could identify each group during later measurements. On the starting day, students would plant six seeds in each group and record the date. Both groups would receive the same amount of water. 独自英文：The English club organized an online exchange with a partner school. Each group had to choose a local activity and prepare a short introduction. 間違えやすい5種類の設問

• 到着と開始：集合8:40と来場者入場9:30は別の時刻。
• 申込と承認：登録しただけで、掲示・撮影・活動の許可が得られるとは限らない。
• 持ち物の上限：up to two booksは最大2冊で、必ず2冊という意味ではない。
• 実験の変更：比較条件を途中で変えたなら、その事実も記録する。
• 予定と結果：will collect feedbackはまだ感想を集めていない。

7日間の復習

1〜4日目に1題ずつ解き、5日目には4題それぞれの順序を三つの短い文で説明。6日目には手順の一つを意図的に前後させて、なぜ誤りか説明します。7日目に全40問を再テストし、疑問詞・締切・許可条件に注意してください。

よくある質問

BeforeとAfterの違いが分からないときは？

二つの行動をAとBに分け、A before BならAが先、A after BならBが先と考えます。

Untilが出たら、必ず『〜までに』と訳しますか？

いいえ。untilは状態の継続の終点などを表します。一方、byは締切を示すときによく使います。

May I …?とmust … は同じですか？

いいえ。mayは許可や可能性を表し、mustは義務を表します。
