結論：Why don’t you join us? は「一緒に参加してみませんか」という提案・誘い、Why didn’t you join us? は「なぜ参加しなかったのですか」という過去の不参加理由です。違いを見抜くには時制だけでなく、相手の返事が承諾なのか理由説明なのかを確認します。

Why don’t と Why didn’t の使い分け

注意：Why don’t you …?は文脈によって「なぜ〜しないの？」という字義どおりの理由質問にもなります。ここでは提案が自然になる場面を明示して練習します。Why didn’t you …?は過去に行われなかった行動の理由を尋ねるのが基本です。

中1・中2の復習方法

まず過去を表すyesterday・last weekを見つけて、なかったら必ず提案だと決めつけないことが重要です。返答のGood idea・Sounds goodなら提案の可能性が高く、Because＋過去形なら理由質問の可能性が高くなります。2回目は選択肢を見ずに、同じ場面の提案文と過去理由文を1つずつ作成します。

FAQ

Why don’t you …?はいつも提案ですか？

いつもではありません。文脈や話し方によって「なぜ〜しないの？」という直接の理由質問にもなります。この教材は提案だと分かる会話場面を用いています。

Why didn’t you went?が間違いなのはなぜですか？

didn’tが過去を表しているので、後の動詞はgoの原形にします。Why didn’t you go?が正しい形です。

英検4級に英作文問題はありますか？

英検4級の一次試験はReadingとListeningで構成され、自由英作文の大問はありません。誤り訂正8問は学校の英文法を補強する独自課題です。
