英検3級のReading・Listeningで日付を理解するときは、1st（first）・2nd（second）・3rd（third）・13th（thirteenth）・21st（twenty-first）などの序数を確認します。独自32課題で数字と英語の対応、月日表示、学校の英文案内から日時を探す練習をします。
対象は中学1〜3年生の英検3級受験者。日付・学校行事は慶英会が創作した架空の問題で、実際の試験日程ではありません。本教材に音声は付属せず、英検公式過去問を転載していません。
日付を読む3つの規則
1st＝first、2nd＝second、3rd＝thirdで、それ以外は4thなど-thが一般的です。ただし11th・12th・13thは末尾が1・2・3でも-thです。21st・22nd・23rdには-st・-nd・-rdが戻ります。日付を書く場合はMay 3rdのように月名と日を組み合わせると明確です。

日付問題の注意点
英語の月日表記は、地域によって数字の日付の順序が異なることがあります。5/3のような数字だけの表記は誤解を生む場合があるため、May 3rdのように月名を明記する練習をします。また変更前の予定と変更後の日付を混同しないようにしてください。
復習法
初日に問1〜16、翌日に17〜32を解きます。3日後に英語の月名と序数を声に出し、学校からの案内で実際に月日を読む練習も行います。正しい発音は公式音源などで確認してください。
