who said what(発言者)、when(時点)、what evidence(根拠)の3点を確認。

  • announced a plan=計画を発表した、completed the project=事業を完了した。
  • corrected/revised the figure=数値を訂正した。

The student newspaper reported that the school library had bought 1,200 new books in September. Two days later, the newspaper corrected the figure to 720. The first report had included books that were only on a proposed purchase list. The librarian confirmed that 720 books had actually arrived. Another 480 books may be ordered next term, depending on the budget. Students are welcome to suggest titles, but their suggestions do not guarantee that the books will be purchased.

A city website announced that more than 10,000 people visited Central Park during June. The number came from an electronic counter at the main gate. A local article then claimed that 10,000 people had enjoyed the new playground. However, the counter measured entry through the gate, not use of the playground. The city later surveyed 120 visitors about playground facilities, and 75 said they were satisfied. Officials warned that this survey did not represent every person who entered the park.

The transport office announced plans for a direct bus between two neighborhoods. A news headline called it a new service, leading some residents to believe that buses were already running. In fact, the office had only published a route proposal. The council will review costs next month and may ask residents to comment on the timetable. No vehicles have been assigned to the proposed route. The office said that construction of a new stop would require separate approval even if the route itself was accepted.
