英検準2級プラスの英文法・長文では、What the school needs is …やWhat matters most is …のように、what節全体を文の主語として使う英文に慣れましょう。「What＝何？」という疑問文だけではありません。慶英会独自24書換課題で、強調されている情報を理解します。
対象：準2級プラスReadingで長い主語や名詞節の意味を取り違える中高生。ここでは文の要点を把握するため、同じ意味を表す焦点化構文へ書き換える練習を行います。特定の構文が英検で必ず出題されると保証するものではありません。

what節では通常の肯定文の語順を守ります。What does the club need?という疑問文の語順を、そのまま名詞節にしないようにしましょう。

- 元の英文を読み、強調する対象を決める。
- 見出しで指定したWhatの形へ書き換える。
- 意味と時制を変えない。
- 全文和訳・構文の根拠を見て答え合わせする。

ReadingとWritingへの応用
What節の中の主語・動詞をひとまとまりとして読み、その後のis / wasに続く情報が何を強調するかを確認してください。英文要約では無理にこの構文を多用する必要はありませんが、長文の中心情報を読み取る助けになります。
