結論｜would like to doは希望、feel like doingはその時の気分
I would like to join the club.は「クラブに参加したいです」。I feel like joining the club.は「クラブに参加したい気分です」。どちらも希望を表せますが、前者は丁寧に希望・意図を伝える表現、後者はそのときの気分を述べる表現です。もっとも重要な文法の違いはwould like to＋原形とfeel like＋-ingです。
準2級の公式試験には会話文の空所補充やEメール返信があり、状況に合う自然な表現を選ぶ必要があります。ここでは慶英会が独自制作した4択24問＋誤文訂正16問、計40問と全訳・解説を掲載します。問題は公式過去問ではありません。
4つの基本形をまとめる
- would like to＋原形：I would like to visit the museum.（訪問したい）
- feel like＋-ing：I feel like visiting the museum.（訪問したい気分）
- don’t feel like＋-ing：I don’t feel like going out.（外出する気分でない）
- Would you like to＋原形？：Would you like to join us?（参加しませんか）
- Do you feel like＋-ing？：Do you feel like going for a walk?（散歩する気分ですか）
would like toは丁寧な希望や誘いに便利
I’d like to learn English.は希望の表明です。Would you like to join us?は相手への丁寧な誘い。断る場合、Thank you, but I can’t join today.のように感謝と事情を伝える自然な応答が使えます。would likeは名詞を直接取ることもあり、I’d like some water.は正しい表現です。「would likeの後は必ずto」と機械的に覚えず、次に動作を置く場合にto不定詞が必要だと考えます。
feel likeのlikeは前置詞
I feel like reading a book.ならreadingは動名詞です。I feel like to readとはしません。feel likeは「〜のように感じる」と意味が変わる場合もあり、It feels like winter.は「冬のような感じがする」です。学習中の文章が希望なのか感覚なのかも確かめます。
Would you like …?とDo you feel like …?の違い
Would you like to come?は丁寧な誘い、Do you feel like coming?は相手が今参加する気分かを尋ねる表現です。どちらも誘いとして自然な場合があります。意味が重なる英文で両方を選択肢に入れ、片方だけ正解と決めつけることは避けましょう。
