英検準2級のone of the＋複数名詞｜後ろはis・has？独自40問と全解答

結論｜one of theの後ろは複数名詞、動詞は基本的に単数形

One of the students is absent.（生徒のうち一人が欠席している）では、studentsは複数形ですが、主語の中心はone（一人）なのでisです。One of my friends has finished.はhas、One of the best books in the library is …のbooksは複数形です。

3つの基本ルール

• one of＋複数名詞：one of my friends / one of these books。特定の集団の中の一人・一つを選ぶため、後ろの名詞は原則複数。
• one of …＋単数動詞：One of the students is here. / One of the books has disappeared. 主語の中心oneは単数。
• one of the＋最上級＋複数名詞：one of the most interesting books。『最も〜なものの一つ』という表現。

a number of・the number of・each ofと混同しない

A number of students are here.は複数の生徒を指し、areを使います。The number of students is increasing.は人数という一つの数値を指すためisです。Each of the students has a question.も一人ずつを見る表現なので標準文法では単数hasを用います。All of the students are here.なら全員で複数です。

関係代名詞が続く長い文では中心語を見つける

One of the students who study science is absent.では、主節の主語oneにis、関係詞節内は複数のstudentsに対応するstudyです。ただし『その人たちの中で唯一〜する人』という意味のthe only one of the students who studies scienceではstudiesが用いられます。意味と修飾先を確かめてください。今回の4択ではこの高度な構造を無理に一つの答えに固定する設問は作りません。

• ① ofの後ろが長くても、主節の主語の中心oneを探す。

• ④ Readingで『一部のみ』と『全員』を区別し、書かれていない人数を補わない。
