A coastal town wanted visitors to enjoy its tidal pools without harming the animals living there. The town offered two guided walks. The Morning Walk began at 9 a.m. and lasted ninety minutes. The Afternoon Walk started at 2 p.m. and lasted one hour. Both walks used the same meeting point near the visitor center. However, the guide explained that a tidal pool could be safe to visit at one time and dangerous later when the tide rose. Before each walk, staff checked the day’s tide information and could cancel or change the route if conditions were unsafe. During the first month, 54 people joined the morning walks and 38 joined the afternoon walks. Some visitors joined more than once. A survey of 30 participants showed that 24 enjoyed learning about small sea creatures, four were unsure, and two preferred walking without a guide. The staff did not count how many individual animals had been protected by the program. They also did not know how visitors behaved when no guide was present. Therefore, they described the survey as feedback about the experience, not proof that the program had improved the environment. After some families had difficulty understanding the warning signs, the town replaced several long sentences with clear pictures. The guides will check whether more visitors follow the safety rules during future walks.
Q26. How long does the Morning Walk last?
- One hour
- Ninety minutes
- Two hours
- Thirty minutes
Q27. Why do staff check tide information before every walk?
- To decide ticket prices
- To count the number of shells
- The same places can become unsafe as the tide rises
- The walks use different meeting points
Q28. What did 24 of the 30 surveyed participants say?
- They enjoyed learning about small sea creatures
- The program saved exactly twenty-four animals
- They had never attended a guided walk
- They wanted to close the visitor center
Q29. Why did the town replace long warnings with pictures?
- There were no animals left
- The Morning Walk was canceled forever
- The signs had been sold
- Some families found the written warnings difficult to understand

3「The same places can become unsafe as the tide rises」
