Some city governments are discussing whether public libraries should remain open later in the evening. Traditionally, most branches have closed before many residents finish work. As a result, people with full-time jobs or long commutes may find it difficult to use library services on weekdays. Local officials hope that extending opening hours could make public resources more accessible.
Supporters of the proposal argue that longer hours would benefit students who need quiet places to study and adults who depend on public computers or internet access. They also note that libraries offer more than books: residents can attend educational events, search for employment, and receive assistance with digital forms. For those without suitable facilities at home, a library may provide an important alternative.
However, opponents are concerned about the additional costs of keeping buildings open. Longer schedules require more staff, electricity, and security, even when relatively few visitors arrive. Some residents therefore suggest testing later hours at selected branches first. The results could help officials decide whether the greater access is worth the expense.
モデル答案(61語): Several cities are considering keeping public libraries open later to serve residents who cannot visit during the day. Supporters argue that extended hours would help workers and students access study spaces and essential digital services. Critics warn that longer schedules would increase staffing and energy costs. Some communities therefore suggest limited trials to determine whether the additional access justifies the expense.

Residents of remote communities sometimes travel long distances to visit a medical specialist. To reduce this burden, several local health organizations are exploring online consultations. During a video appointment, a patient can describe symptoms and discuss test results with a doctor. Such services are particularly attractive in places with limited public transportation.
Advocates say that remote appointments can save travel time and make follow-up care easier. People managing long-term conditions may need frequent discussions about treatment, even when they do not require a physical examination every time. Video consultations can also help specialists share advice with local healthcare workers. Supporters therefore believe that remote care may improve access without requiring a specialist to live in every community.
Nevertheless, online consultations have limitations. A doctor may need to examine a patient directly, and weak internet connections can interrupt important conversations. Some patients are also concerned about the privacy of sensitive information. For these reasons, many healthcare professionals recommend combining online discussions with face-to-face appointments instead of replacing all in-person care.
モデル答案(63語): Health organizations in remote areas are exploring video consultations to reduce the burden of traveling for specialist care. Supporters say online appointments can save time, improve follow-up treatment, and connect local workers with specialists. However, some conditions require physical examinations, while poor connections and privacy concerns create further difficulties. Healthcare professionals therefore favor using remote consultations alongside, rather than instead of, in-person visits.

Many urban neighborhoods have become warmer during summer because roads and buildings absorb heat. City planners are looking for practical ways to make outdoor spaces more comfortable. One proposal is to plant additional trees along streets and near public facilities. Large trees can provide shade during the hottest hours of the day, although the benefits depend on where and how they are planted.
Supporters of urban tree planting point out that shaded sidewalks may encourage more people to walk. Trees can also help cool surrounding areas and make public spaces more attractive. In neighborhoods with few parks, even a relatively small green area can offer residents a place to rest. Some planners argue that trees should be treated as long-term infrastructure rather than decoration.
Critics, however, emphasize that new trees need regular care. In dry areas, watering them may compete with other demands for limited water. Roots can also damage pavements if species and locations are chosen poorly. Several cities are therefore considering planting strategies that take local conditions into account and provide funds for maintenance, rather than simply aiming for the highest number of trees.
モデル答案(62語): Urban planners are considering planting more street trees to reduce summer heat and improve public spaces. Supporters say shade could make walking more comfortable and provide greener areas for residents. Critics note that trees require maintenance and water, and poorly placed roots may damage sidewalks. Consequently, some cities favor carefully choosing planting locations and funding long-term care rather than maximizing tree numbers.
