  • representative(代表性):標本が広い集団を適切に代表するか。

A town tested a revised map of its public station. Students using the map repeatedly chose the same route, so planners described their answers as consistent. However, the selected route did not always lead to the accessible entrance. The original survey also included only frequent train users. The team therefore questioned both whether the map guided people to the correct place and whether the survey represented visitors unfamiliar with the station.

D1. What did consistent choices fail to establish?

  1. The existence of the station.
  2. That passengers always selected the correct accessible route.
  3. That a map was being used.
  4. That students could read maps.

D2. Why might the survey lack representativeness?

  1. No train users were involved.
  2. It included every possible tourist.
  3. It sampled only frequent train users.
  4. All maps were drawn in different languages.

A fictional utility tested a pressure gauge five times and obtained nearly identical readings. Later, a comparison with a calibrated reference revealed that the gauge consistently read too high. Engineers said its repeatability appeared good, but its accuracy required improvement. They planned another calibration and warned that stable numbers alone could not demonstrate that the water pressure was safe.

D3. What was the problem with the gauge?

  1. The readings varied randomly.
  2. It had never been turned on.
  3. It measured temperature rather than pressure.
  4. It produced repeatable but systematically high readings.

D4. What was proposed next?

  1. Recalibration and further evaluation.
  2. An immediate ban on water.
  3. Ignoring the reference values.
  4. Claiming that every reading was correct.

A school repeatedly asked students whether they enjoyed online lessons. Their answers were similar across two short surveys, suggesting stable measurement of self-reported enjoyment. The principal then asked whether these results could show that the lessons improved examination performance. Teachers replied that enjoyment and academic achievement were not the same construct, and a separate assessment would be needed.

D5. What did repeated similar answers support?

  1. A guarantee of improved examination scores.
  2. An absence of all bias.
  3. Stability of reported enjoyment.
  4. Perfect measurement of actual learning.

D6. Why was another assessment needed?

  1. The school had no students.
  2. Enjoyment did not directly measure examination performance.
  3. The surveys had been canceled.
  4. All results were lost.

A conservation team compared photographs from several camera traps. Repeated observations at one site were consistent, but the cameras were not placed in every habitat. A biologist said the records could reliably describe activity near selected cameras, yet they should not be treated as an exact count of all animals in the region. Some individuals could appear several times, and areas without cameras remained unobserved.

D7. What was the records’ strongest supported use?

  1. Describing activity near the selected cameras.
  2. Counting every animal in the region.
  3. Proving all habitats were identical.
  4. Identifying every individual by name.

D8. Why couldn’t the photos provide an exact population count?

  1. No photos had been taken.
  2. The cameras were all broken.
  3. The team ignored their records.
  4. Some animals appeared more than once and other areas were not observed.

B:That passengers always selected the correct accessible route. 本文根拠:“same route … did not always lead to the accessible entrance”。

C:It sampled only frequent train users. 本文根拠:“only frequent train users”。

D:It produced repeatable but systematically high readings. 本文根拠:“consistently read too high”。

A:Recalibration and further evaluation. 本文根拠:“planned another calibration”。

D5 正解C:Stability of reported enjoyment. 本文根拠:“similar across two … stable measurement of … enjoyment”。

B:Enjoyment did not directly measure examination performance. 本文根拠:“enjoyment and academic achievement were not the same construct”。

A:Describing activity near the selected cameras.

D:Some animals appeared more than once and other areas were not observed. 本文根拠:“appear several times … without cameras”。
