a.m.は午前、p.m.は午後、noonは正午（昼12時）、midnightは真夜中（夜12時）です。 午前7時15分は7:15 a.m.、午後7時15分は7:15 p.m.と表します。昼12時と夜12時の区別では、12:00 noon・12:00 midnightと書くと時刻をより明確に伝えられます。

12:00 a.m.と12:00 p.m.は混同しやすい
一般に12:00 a.m.を午前0時・真夜中、12:00 p.m.を正午とする慣習がありますが、12 a.m.と12 p.m.は特に混同されやすい表記です。誰にでも分かる連絡文では12:00 noon（正午）・12:00 midnight（真夜中）と明記する方が安全です。日付の境界が重要な予定は、日付・24時間表記も併記すると誤解を減らせます。
午前11:50と午後11:50の違い
11:50 a.m.は昼12時の10分前、11:50 p.m.は真夜中の12時の10分前です。同じ11:50でもa.m.かp.m.かで12時間違います。学校の授業などの日中の予定と深夜の移動予定を混同しないようにしましょう。
at noon・at midnightとat 7:00
具体的な時刻にはatを使い、at noon・at midnight・at 7:00 a.m.とします。曜日を表すon Monday、月を表すin Mayと区別します。on noonやin midnightは通常、この意味では使いません。
24時間表記と12時間表記を行き来する
午前7:00＝07:00、午後7:00＝19:00、正午＝12:00、真夜中＝00:00です。ただし真夜中をまたぐ時刻は日付の指定が必要になることがあり、鉄道や予約などでは24時間表記と日付を優先して確認してください。
