英検3級Eメールの「What was difficult?（何が難しかった？）」と「How did you solve the problem?（どう解決した？）」は、似た内容を聞いているようで異なります。難しかった点を述べただけでは、解決方法への回答が不足します。慶英会が独自制作した8通40課題で、問題→対処→結果の順に英文を書く練習をしましょう。
結論｜Whatは困難、Howは対処を答える
困難の解決から上達の説明へ：How did you practice・What improvedの独自8通40課題。困難→対処の表現を学んだあと、練習方法→上達した点という別の2質問にも対応できます。
What was difficult? にはRemembering new words was difficult.、How did you solve it?にはI used flashcards and reviewed them every day.のように答えます。難しさの内容と、実際に取った行動を分けましょう。I tried hard.だけでは具体的な方法が十分伝わらないことがあります。
英検3級の公式試験内容にはEメール返信と意見英作文が各1題あります。本記事は、受信メール中の2質問に対応する15〜25語の返信練習を目的とする慶英会独自教材であり、公式過去問ではありません。
2質問への答え方と時制

過去の活動ならwas difficult、asked、used、checkedなどの過去形が基本です。difficultは形容詞なのでIt was difficult for me to …のようにも書けます。solveはsolve–solved–solvedで、単にhelpedではなく何をしたかを説明してください。

よくある質問
How did you solve it?にI was happy.と答えられますか？
解決した後の気持ちは分かりますが、どう解決したかは説明できません。I asked my teacher and checked my answer.など実際の対処を書く必要があります。
What was difficult?にBecause … と答えてよいですか？
理由の説明だけでは難しかった内容が不明になる場合があります。First, state the difficulty.という考え方で、Writing the report was difficult.のように答えましょう。
解決できなかった場合はどう書きますか？
解決済みの設定と異なり、本当に解決できていない場合はI tried …, but I could not solve it.と具体的に述べます。実際に起きたことと異なる成功を作らないようにしましょう。
