The library therefore tested two schedules [18] deciding which should become permanent.

More students visited on Saturdays, but weekday evening attendance remained low on certain days. Managers also recorded additional staffing and electricity costs. [19], they asked whether students without convenient public transport could actually reach the building.

An art club collected used cardboard for exhibition displays. Some pieces were wet or damaged, so the teacher asked students to sort the materials by condition [21] using them for structures that would hold heavy objects.

Many towns prepare maps showing evacuation routes and emergency meeting places. These maps are useful, but roads and buildings can change after they are printed. A route that was accessible a year ago may be closed during repairs.

One town invited residents to test the walking routes shown on its map. Several people found a crossing with steps that were difficult for wheelchair users or families with strollers. Another group discovered a bridge that had been temporarily closed. The town asked engineers to check the reports and identify suitable alternatives.

The updated map included step-free routes and the date when each location had last been checked. Printed notices were also prepared because power failures can prevent people from reading digital maps. Officials explained that a map is a planning tool and cannot replace the latest emergency directions from responsible authorities.

The town will continue checking its routes regularly and asking residents for feedback. Its goal is to make information useful for people with different needs.

問26|Why did the town ask residents to test the routes?

  1. To check whether the routes were still usable for different people
  2. To replace every bridge immediately
  3. To stop using emergency maps
  4. To remove meeting places from the maps

A To check whether the routes were still usable for different people:They found steps and a closed bridge; suitability needed checking.

問27|Why did the town prepare printed notices?

  1. Every website had been permanently removed
  2. The town wanted to ban phones
  3. Officials were closing all public buildings
  4. Digital information might be unavailable during power failures

D Digital information might be unavailable during power failures:Power failures can prevent people from reading digital maps.

28|What is the central message?

  1. The shortest route is always the safest
  2. Evacuation routes must be checked, updated, and accessible
  3. Printed maps never become outdated
  4. Residents should ignore current emergency instructions

B Evacuation routes must be checked, updated, and accessible:Regular review and access for different needs are emphasized.

A library introduced a program for lending laptops to local students who had difficulty using computers at home. Students could borrow a device for two weeks and use it for homework or research projects.

The program soon created extra responsibilities. Staff needed to maintain devices, install updates, and protect personal information. Some students also had unreliable home internet connections, so owning a borrowed laptop was not enough to complete every online assignment. The library prepared short instructions and offered offline materials when necessary.

During a three-month trial, staff recorded how often devices were borrowed, which repairs were needed, and whether students managed to finish their work. They asked borrowers about technical difficulties and available support. High borrowing numbers alone would not prove that the program improved learning.

The library plans to review the service after a full year. Its goal is to improve access while balancing costs, privacy, and the needs of families with different resources.

問29|Why are offline learning materials offered?

  1. Every student dislikes computers
  2. The library has no internet access at all
  3. Some borrowers have unreliable home internet connections
  4. All schoolwork must be completed on paper

C Some borrowers have unreliable home internet connections:Some borrowers have unreliable home internet connections.

30|What did staff measure in the first three months?

  1. Only the number of computers sold
  2. Loans, repairs, and whether borrowers completed their work
  3. The number of buses near the library
  4. Only the names of school principals

B Loans, repairs, and whether borrowers completed their work:Frequency of loans, repair needs, and completed work were measured.

31|What is the program’s overall purpose?

  1. To stop lending printed books
  2. To replace every family’s home computer
  3. To remove all technical assistance
  4. To improve access while managing costs and privacy

D To improve access while managing costs and privacy:The final paragraph explicitly mentions access, costs, and privacy.

Writing 1|

Some community centers offer cooking classes where residents can learn simple meals and how to use ingredients efficiently. Participants may gain practical skills and meet neighbors. Volunteers often share methods for reducing avoidable food waste.

However, organizers must manage food allergies, maintain safe equipment, and make sure beginners receive adequate guidance. Limited volunteer time can also make it difficult to offer classes at times that suit everyone.

To address these challenges, centers provide ingredient information before each class, give short safety instructions, and work with specialists when necessary. Some programs offer different schedules to help more residents attend.

Community cooking classes can teach practical skills, reduce food waste, and connect residents. However, allergies, equipment safety, and limited volunteer time create challenges. Organizers address these problems by sharing ingredient information, providing safety training, consulting specialists, and offering flexible schedules to make participation easier for different residents.

Writing 2|

TOPIC: Do you think schools should teach students how to check statistics before sharing them online?

I think schools should teach students to check statistics before sharing them online. First, numbers can be misleading when the source or survey method is unclear. For example, students could compare a popular social media chart with the original report. Second, understanding evidence helps young people make better arguments in school projects. Teachers should also explain sample sizes, uncertainty, and privacy. A large percentage does not automatically prove that one event caused another. These lessons would encourage careful online communication and help students make informed decisions in everyday life.
