The city decided to (prohibit / restrict / estimate) smoking inside public buildings.

The committee will (assess / assure / consume) the environmental impact first.

The new evidence may (undermine / undergo / allocate) public confidence.

The company hopes to (foster / prohibit / distort) innovation.

The government plans to (mitigate / compile / retain) the effects of flooding.
解説:mitigate the effects of flooding が定型的な語法。

The report (highlights / inherits / exhausts) the need for reform.
解説:highlight the need for reform が自然。inherit/exhaustは適切な意味にならない。

The study (corroborates / consumes / postpones) the earlier findings.

The policy could (exacerbate / facilitate / preserve) inequality.
標準解答と条件付き別解:exacerbate(悪化)/preserve(維持)も条件次第

The agency must (enforce / inherit / foresee) safety regulations.
標準解答と条件付き別解:enforce(執行)/foresee(予期)も文脈次第

The researchers (detected / imposed / restrained) a significant change.

The organization will (allocate / dispute / prohibit) additional funds.

The proposal (sparked / complied / retained) controversy.

問1:prohibit(全面禁止)とrestrict(部分的に制限)は、ともにsmokingの目的語を取れる。

問4:foster(育成)・prohibit(禁止)・distort(ゆがめる)は、innovationとの組み合わせがそれぞれ文法的にあり得る。
