1|TOPIC:Should governments invest more in public transportation?
I support targeted investment in public transportation. First, reliable routes help residents reach jobs and medical services. For example, an evening bus link could connect a hospital to the nearest station. Second, better public transport may reduce the need for short car journeys. However, poorly used routes can create high running costs. Therefore, governments and institutions should fund routes where access gaps are demonstrated.
2|TOPIC:Should schools restrict smartphone use?
I favor reasonable limits on smartphone use during lessons. First, clear rules can help students focus on schoolwork. For example, teachers can require devices to be put away during explanations. Second, students can learn responsible digital behavior. However, a blanket ban could restrict useful learning tools. Therefore, governments and institutions should allow supervised educational use.
3|TOPIC:Should cities create more green spaces?
I support green spaces in heat-exposed neighborhoods. First, shade can make school routes and public areas more comfortable. For example, trees can be planted around crowded transit stops. Second, green spaces can also give residents places for recreation. However, land and long-term maintenance cost money. Therefore, governments and institutions should prioritize high-risk locations and monitor temperatures.
4|TOPIC:Should companies adopt shorter workweeks?
I would pilot shorter workweeks where service levels can be maintained. First, some employees may gain time for rest and family duties. For example, a company could try a new schedule with one department. Second, a trial can reveal which tasks can be reorganized. However, essential services may suffer if staffing falls too far. Therefore, governments and institutions should measure customer service and staff well-being before expansion.
5|TOPIC:Should governments increase support for renewable energy?
I support well-designed clean-energy investment. First, diverse energy sources may reduce dependence on imported fuels. For example, a town could test storage alongside rooftop solar. Second, support for grid upgrades may improve supply reliability. However, projects can be costly and affect local land use. Therefore, governments and institutions should compare lifecycle costs and environmental impact.
6|TOPIC:Should universities require internships?
I oppose compulsory unpaid internships but support accessible practical placements. First, supervised work can reveal what a career involves. For example, a university could arrange paid placements in local organizations. Second, practical experiences can complement academic teaching. However, students with limited funds could be excluded. Therefore, governments and institutions should offer paid or equivalent supervised alternatives.
7|TOPIC:Should tourism be limited in overcrowded destinations?
I support limited visitor controls in severely overcrowded places. First, too many tourists can put pressure on public infrastructure. For example, timed reservations could spread arrivals across the day. Second, moderate crowding helps protect local residents. However, restrictions may reduce income for small businesses. Therefore, governments and institutions should consult local firms and review the trial.
8|TOPIC:Should public museums be free?
I prefer carefully scheduled free museum days to universal free admission. First, limited free entry can improve access for families. For example, a museum could offer one free afternoon each month. Second, exhibits can then reach people who rarely visit. However, conservation funding might decline if all fees disappear. Therefore, governments and institutions should protect collection maintenance and track access.
9|TOPIC:Should schools teach financial literacy?
I support practical financial literacy in schools. First, students need to understand borrowing costs before adulthood. For example, a lesson could compare the interest on two hypothetical loans. Second, budgeting knowledge may support more informed decisions. However, some materials might contain financial-product advertising. Therefore, governments and institutions should use independent examples and assess understanding.
10|TOPIC:Should governments regulate short-term rentals?
I support proportionate short-term rental rules where housing shortages are documented. First, residential supply may be reduced by excessive visitor rentals. For example, a city could license rentals in heavily affected districts. Second, clear rules may reduce neighborhood disputes. However, small property owners could lose income. Therefore, governments and institutions should review housing outcomes and keep rules targeted.
11|TOPIC:Should public data be freely accessible?
I support access to public data that do not reveal private identities. First, open information can help residents examine public spending. For example, a local agency could publish anonymized budget records. Second, researchers may be able to assess policies independently. However, raw datasets sometimes allow people to be reidentified. Therefore, governments and institutions should use aggregation and independent privacy reviews.
12|TOPIC:Should cities charge higher fees for private cars downtown?
I would consider congestion charges only after practical transport alternatives exist. First, pricing can discourage some unnecessary peak-hour driving. For example, a city could test a limited charge on its busiest streets. Second, revenue could fund better local bus routes. However, low-income commuters without alternatives may be burdened. Therefore, governments and institutions should provide discounts and evaluate nearby traffic.
13|TOPIC:Should governments support historic preservation?
I support preserving culturally significant buildings when safety can be maintained. First, historic sites can help communities understand their heritage. For example, a city could restore a building used for public exhibitions. Second, preservation may also support education and tourism. However, old structures can require expensive repairs. Therefore, governments and institutions should prioritize structural safety and transparent budgets.
14|TOPIC:Should companies disclose environmental risks?
I favor verified disclosure of material environmental risks. First, communities need credible information about local hazards. For example, a firm could report independently checked emissions data. Second, disclosure can help investors compare relevant risks. However, revealing confidential information could cause other problems. Therefore, governments and institutions should use consistent standards and protect legitimate secrets.
15|TOPIC:Should schools provide more career education?
I support meaningful career education before graduation. First, students should understand the range of work available. For example, advisers could compare training routes for two occupations. Second, workshops can help students evaluate required skills. However, labor-market forecasts can become outdated. Therefore, governments and institutions should update guidance and avoid promising specific jobs.
16|TOPIC:Should governments subsidize preventive healthcare?
I support targeted preventive healthcare where evidence shows benefits. First, early care may detect some problems before they become severe. For example, clinics could invite high-risk patients for appropriate screening. Second, informed advice may reduce avoidable health risks. However, unnecessary tests can have costs and harms. Therefore, governments and institutions should monitor false positives and patients’ outcomes.
17|TOPIC:Should universities expand international exchange programs?
I support exchange opportunities with need-based assistance. First, international contact can develop understanding across cultures. For example, students could join an online project with overseas classmates. Second, structured exchanges may strengthen communication skills. However, travel programs can exclude students with limited income. Therefore, governments and institutions should offer scholarships and virtual alternatives.
18|TOPIC:Should cities invest more in cycling infrastructure?
I favor connected and protected cycling routes in suitable districts. First, safe routes can offer an alternative for some short car journeys. For example, a city could link a residential area to a station by separated lanes. Second, cycling infrastructure may improve local mobility. However, dangerous crossings could expose cyclists and pedestrians to harm. Therefore, governments and institutions should audit intersections and consult residents.
19|TOPIC:Should governments strengthen consumer protection?
I support proportional consumer protection against misleading sales. First, clear rules can make contract terms easier to understand. For example, a regulator could require visible cancellation conditions. Second, effective remedies may reduce preventable losses. However, complex paperwork can burden smaller businesses. Therefore, governments and institutions should focus enforcement on serious violations.
20|TOPIC:Should public libraries expand digital services?
I support broader digital access through public libraries. First, online resources can reach people far from city centers. For example, a library could offer free computers and guided applications. Second, digital collections can supplement books and community rooms. However, some residents need face-to-face help and data protection. Therefore, governments and institutions should retain staffed assistance and audit privacy safeguards.
TOPIC:Should governments invest more in public transportation?
I support greater investment in public transportation, especially in cities where people without cars struggle to reach essential services. My first reason is accessibility. When buses arrive only once an hour, a resident may miss a medical appointment or turn down a job that requires an early start. A better route network would make these opportunities less dependent on car ownership. My second reason is the long-term use of public space. If a city offers frequent buses and reliable connections to trains, some commuters may choose not to drive. That could make it possible to redesign crowded streets for pedestrians or safer cycling. However, public transport projects are not automatically good investments. An expensive rail line with few users could divert money from more urgent needs. For that reason, governments should begin by identifying neighborhoods with poor access and testing practical improvements, such as more frequent services during peak hours. They should measure waiting times, punctuality, and access to hospitals and workplaces rather than simply announce a large construction budget. Although the most suitable solution will differ across regions, dependable public transport can help cities become fairer and more convenient when it is planned around actual demand. For these reasons, I believe targeted investment is preferable to indiscriminate expansion.

Topic: Should schools teach financial literacy?
I believe schools should teach financial literacy. There are two main reasons for this. First, students need basic knowledge before they make financial decisions as adults. Understanding interest, budgeting, and borrowing can help them avoid unnecessary debt. Second, financial education can improve long-term planning. For example, students who learn how savings grow over time may be more likely to prepare for future expenses. Of course, schools cannot teach every aspect of personal finance, so the curriculum should focus on practical skills. Overall, financial literacy is an essential part of preparing young people for independent life.
