at the end of：時間の最後・物の端

At the end of the film, everyone stood up.は映画が終わる時点を示します。At the end of the corridor, you will see the lab.は廊下の突き当たりという位置です。at the end ofは時間にも場所にも使われるため、日本語の「終わり」「端」の両方を文脈に合わせて理解してください。

in the end：「結局」はin the end ofではない

We considered several options, but in the end we chose the simplest one.は、いくつかの選択肢を検討した後に決めたという意味です。Cambridge DictionaryやBBC Learning Englishでも、in the endは何かを考えたり複数の出来事が起きたりした後の結果として説明されています。**in the end of the movie**と書くのではなく、映画の最後ならat the end of the movieを使います。

by the end of：提出期限・完了目標

Please complete the assignment by the end of Friday.は、金曜日が終わるまでに完了させるという最終期限です。at the end of Fridayなら金曜の終わりの時点に何かが起きる意味になります。by the end ofを使うときは「遅くともいつまでに終わるべきか」という条件を意識します。

at the end ofとby the end ofの意味が近い場面

At the end of the month, we will review the results.は月末に振り返るという時点指定です。By the end of the month, we will have reviewed the results.は月末までに振り返りを済ませる見込みです。文の時制・動詞によって意味が変わるため、前置詞だけで判断しないでください。

at last・finallyとの関連

in the endはfinallyやeventuallyと近い意味になることがありますが、すべて同じ表現ではありません。in the endは紆余曲折の末の結論や結果を述べるときに便利です。学校テストではin the endが単独で使われること、at the end ofとby the end ofには具体的な対象を続けられることを優先して理解してください。
