読解の基本｜fact・guess・confirmed information
fact（事実）：Ken carried a blue folder.（ケンが青いフォルダーを持っていた。）guess（推測）：Emi wondered whether Ken had moved the exhibition folder.（エミはケンが展示用のものを動かしたのでは、と考えた。）confirmed information（確認された事実）：Mr. Ono moved it to keep the papers dry.（小野先生は紙をぬらさないように移した。）一つの目撃情報から犯人や原因を断定しないことが重要です。
独自初見物語（422語）｜The Blue Folder
On Monday morning, Class 8B was preparing a small exhibition about the history of its town. Their teacher, Ms. Kato, had printed two versions of an event schedule. The older version said that the exhibition would begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. A new email from the school office changed the opening time to 3:00 p.m. because the art room would be used for another class until 2:30.
At about eight o’clock, Ms. Kato put a blue folder containing the old schedule and some draft captions on a table in the reading room. She planned to collect it later and replace the old schedule with the new one. The table was near a window. Soon after eight, a student accidentally spilled water nearby. Mr. Ono, the librarian, noticed the water and moved the blue folder to the staff desk to keep the papers dry. He did not know that Class 8B was looking for it.
At half past eight, Emi came into the reading room to find the folder. It was not on the table. At almost the same time, she saw Ken walking past the door with another blue folder. Ken belonged to the debate club, and the folder in his hands contained notes for its meeting. Emi could not see the contents, so she wondered whether he had moved the exhibition folder. She told Rina, the class leader, that she had seen Ken carrying a blue folder, but she added that she was not sure it was theirs.
Rina checked the reading room twice. At nine, she sent a message to the class saying, “We cannot find our folder yet. Please tell me if you know where it is.” She did not say that anyone had stolen it. After the first lesson, Mr. Ono heard about the search and returned the exhibition folder. All the draft papers were still inside.
Rina was relieved, but she noticed that the printed schedule still showed 2:00 p.m. She opened the newer email, confirmed the correct time with Ms. Kato, and changed the class poster to 3:00 p.m. Before the poster was printed, she explained to Emi that the folder had been moved to protect it from water. Emi apologized to Ken for assuming that he might have moved it. Ken said he understood.
On Thursday, the exhibition opened at 3:00 p.m. as announced. Rina wrote a short note for next year’s students: “Check what you actually know before deciding what happened. And always compare an old printed plan with the latest confirmed notice.”

全文和訳
