結論：NEW TREASURE（ニュートレジャー）Stage1の初見読解では、本文の内容を理解していても、設問のNOT（〜ではない）・EXCEPT（〜以外）・FALSE（誤っている）を読み落とすと正反対の選択肢を選んでしまいます。最初に設問の否定語を囲み、本文の根拠と照合してから答えましょう。中1向けの慶英会独自資料4本・40問に、英文の全訳、全解答、根拠の文番号を付けています。

NOT・EXCEPT・FALSEの意味を30秒で確認

  • Which statement is NOT true?＝「正しくないのはどれ？」。本文と矛盾するものを選ぶ。
  • Which is FALSE?＝「誤っているのはどれ？」。TRUEを選ぶ問題ではない。
  • Which item is NOT optional?＝「任意ではないものは？」。mandatory（必須）の方を選ぶ。
  • All except X＝「Xを除いたすべて」。EXCEPTの後に例外が来る。
  • 本文に書かれていないことと、本文と反対のことは別。学校がNot Givenを選択肢に含める場合は、その区別も必要。

解き方｜否定語を先に見て、根拠に戻る

例：案内に「The library is closed on Sunday.」とあれば、設問「Which is NOT true?」に対して「The library is open on Sunday.」を選びます。選択肢を頭の中で「日曜日は開く／閉まる」と訳し分け、本文の明示的な情報で確認します。憶測で選ばないことが重要です。

誤答を減らす3回復習

  • 当日：40問を各資料10問ずつ解く。設問のNOT・EXCEPT・FALSEを丸で囲む。
  • 翌日：間違えた問だけを再テストし、根拠となるS番号と「どの語が反対か」を自分の言葉で説明する。
  • 7日後：問題文の否定語を隠して選択肢をまず訳し、否定語を確認して答える。判断が入れ替わる感覚を確かめる。

よくある質問

NOT trueとNot Givenは同じですか？

同じではありません。「NOT true／FALSE」は文脈上、本文と矛盾する情報を選ぶ形式が多い一方、「Not Given」は判断に必要な事実が本文にない状態です。本教材の2択は原則として一方が本文の情報と矛盾するよう作成しています。学校のテストでは指示文を優先してください。
