「AよりBを選ぶ」は prefer B to A、「Aの代わりにBを行う」は do B instead of A、「Aと違ってBは〜」は unlike A, B … と表せます。rather thanは対比・選好を示す語で、必ずしも実際の置換が完了した意味にはなりません。
