英検準2級プラスの交通・旅行・環境の説明文に出るcarpool(相乗りする)・ride-sharing(配車・ライドシェア)・shuttle(送迎便)・public transit(公共交通)は、それぞれの運行条件や利用方法が異なります。

Reading passage(慶英会オリジナル)
A junior high school arranged a Saturday museum visit for forty students. The museum offered a free shuttle from Central Station, departing every thirty minutes between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Each shuttle could carry twenty passengers, so the school planned to divide students into two groups. The first group would take the 9:00 shuttle and the second the 9:30 shuttle. A regular city bus also went toward the museum, but it followed a different route and required a fare. A parent read that the shuttle was free and assumed that the regular bus was free as well. The teacher clarified that the two services were operated under different conditions. The museum also advised visitors to check the pickup point outside the east station exit. A shuttle reservation did not mean that any regular bus ticket was included. If a shuttle was delayed, the teacher would check the updated instructions before changing the group’s plan.

Reading passage(慶英会オリジナル)
A small company asked employees how they traveled to its office. Several employees who lived near one another decided to carpool twice a week. They used one shared vehicle instead of each driving separately. However, employees still needed to agree on a pickup time and a safe meeting place. The company did not operate the carpool as a public bus service. Other employees sometimes used a ride-booking application to request transport when they worked late. The transport provider’s fare depended on the trip details, and a price estimate shown before booking was not necessarily a final receipt. The company explained that the phrase ride-sharing may be used for different services in different places, so workers should check the actual provider’s terms. A student studying this notice assumed that everyone using the same application automatically traveled in the same car. The company corrected the assumption: sharing an application does not mean sharing a particular vehicle. The company had not calculated the environmental impact of these commuting choices.

Reading passage(慶英会オリジナル)
A science museum offered an afternoon shuttle to a special exhibition site outside the city center. The shuttle left the main museum at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00 p.m., with twelve seats per trip. Under the museum’s event rules, passengers had to reserve a specific departure, and their booking did not apply to other times. For the 2:00 trip, ten seats were confirmed and two remained available. A student with a 1:00 reservation arrived at 1:30 and hoped to take the 2:00 shuttle instead. Staff explained that the student could request a change, but it was not automatically approved. The museum used a separate list to manage changes. A city bus also stopped near the exhibition site but required its own ticket and followed another schedule. The museum’s free shuttle was not part of that regular public transit route. Visitors were advised not to assume that all services leaving the same area had identical booking conditions.

Reading passage(慶英会オリジナル)
A community center held a workshop about transport choices. Students compared three possible ways to reach a local museum: a regular public bus, a museum shuttle, and carpooling with family members. The public bus had a published fare and regular stops along its route. The museum shuttle served only the station-to-museum route during certain event hours. Carpooling meant sharing a car, but the number of passengers varied by family. One student argued that the shared car must always be the most environmentally friendly option because it carried more than one person. The teacher said that no such conclusion could be made without additional information about distances, vehicle types and the number of passengers. The class collected the timetables of the two bus services and information about parking. The museum confirmed that the shuttle operated only on event days, so it could not be treated as a regular daily public bus. The students planned to compare actual travel conditions before making recommendations.
