英検準2級でbe supposed to・be allowed to・be required to・be expected toの違いは、予定・許可・規則上の義務・期待を区別すると理解できます。

  • be supposed to do:予定・決まり・当然の期待を表す。The bus was supposed to leave at nine, but it was delayed.(9時発の予定だったが遅れた)。
  • be allowed to do:許可される。Visitors are allowed to take photographs.(写真を撮ってよい)。
  • be required to do:規則・条件で義務付けられている。Participants are required to wear helmets.(参加者は着用必須)。
  • be expected to do:周囲から期待される。Members are expected to help.(手伝いを期待される)。

are allowed to join was supposed to arrive at nine, but it was late are not required to register は「登録する必要がない」であり、are not allowed to register(登録が禁止)と逆の内容です。

be allowed toとbe required toは同じですか?

違います。be allowed toは許可、be required toは規則上の義務などです。

not required toとnot allowed toの違いは何ですか?

be expected toは必ず義務ですか?
