  • Observation:
  • Opinion:

A town library tested a book return box that residents could use after the building had closed. The six-week trial was intended to help people who worked during the day. Staff placed the box under a small roof and checked the returned books every morning. During the trial, seventy books were returned through the box. However, five book covers became wet on days with heavy rain, so staff spent extra time drying or repairing them. At the end of the trial, the library invited residents to answer a voluntary survey. Forty people responded: twenty-six found the box convenient, nine were unsure, and five did not consider it useful. The responses suggested interest, but respondents might not represent all library users. The survey did not measure whether the box reduced overdue books. The manager proposed another trial with better protection against rain and a record of overdue returns. The town had not approved a permanent box and wanted to compare benefits with maintenance costs.

10:A town library tested an after-hours book return box for people unable to visit during normal hours. Residents returned many books, but rain damaged several covers. A voluntary survey suggested that some people found the box convenient, although it did not measure overdue returns. Officials are considering another trial with better weather protection before permanent installation. The proposal has not yet received final approval.

The return box may improve access, but the library should fix the rain problem and measure overdue returns before deciding whether the service is worth maintaining.

A secondary school began lending tablet computers to students without suitable devices at home. The school owned thirty tablets and allowed students to borrow them for one week at a time. Teachers hoped this would make online homework easier. In the first month, twenty students borrowed tablets. Sixteen returned them on time, while four returned them late because their families had difficulty arranging a return trip. Teachers then asked the borrowers about their experiences. Fifteen said that completing homework had become easier, three were uncertain, and two still faced other problems. However, the school did not compare homework scores before and after the loans. Teachers also had not surveyed students who did not borrow tablets, so they could not explain why some students stayed outside the program. A student committee proposed increasing the number of devices, but the technology coordinator raised concerns about repairs and staff time. The principal agreed to review the idea after checking how students could obtain the equipment they needed without revealing unnecessary personal information.

  • 問16:No.
  • 問17:No.
18:Repair budgets and staff time.
19:The school should examine learning outcomes and ask nonborrowers about their needs.
20:A school introduced a tablet lending program to help students complete homework at home. Most borrowers returned their devices on time, and several said the program made homework easier. However, teachers had not measured changes in academic performance or surveyed nonborrowers. The school is considering expansion while examining repair costs, staffing, and privacy concerns. The proposal has not yet received final approval.

Lending devices may reduce practical barriers, but the school should also examine academic outcomes and support students who face problems unrelated to equipment.

A neighborhood group organized a three-week trial to make a busy crossing near a school easier to use. Volunteers reminded drivers to slow down before morning classes. They counted pedestrians during two thirty-minute periods each day. The number varied because some mornings were rainy and others were clear. The group did not record every vehicle’s speed or compare the crossing with a similar location without volunteers. Afterward, twenty-four parents answered a voluntary questionnaire. Fourteen said the crossing felt safer, six noticed little difference, and four were unsure. The answers measured impressions, not changes in accident risk. No accidents were reported during the trial, but that did not prove volunteers had prevented accidents that would otherwise have occurred. The group suggested that the city install brighter signs. City officials said they would review the proposal alongside other safety priorities and costs. The volunteers planned to collect more information instead of describing the short trial as a proven permanent solution.

  • 問27:No.
  • 問28:No.
29:The city should also measure vehicle speeds and compare similar crossings.
30:Volunteers tested a school crossing support program for three weeks and counted pedestrians during morning periods. Some parents reported feeling safer, but the survey measured perceptions rather than accident risk. The group had not tracked all vehicle speeds or used a comparison site. City officials will review a proposal for brighter signs alongside other priorities. The proposal has not yet received final approval.

The trial may be useful, but a longer comparison including vehicle speeds and crossing conditions would provide stronger evidence before permanent changes are made.

A school cafeteria tested allowing students to choose smaller or larger lunch portions. Its aim was to reduce food waste while ensuring that students had enough to eat. During a two-week trial, staff counted the number of meals served but did not weigh each student’s leftovers. Some students selected smaller portions, while others chose the usual size. Students who were still hungry could request more food. After the trial, sixty students answered a voluntary survey. Thirty-five liked having a choice, fifteen were unsure, and ten preferred the previous system. These figures reflected preferences, not the amount of food saved. Staff explained that accurate waste measurements would require additional time and a consistent method. The student council proposed continuing the program for another month and measuring waste on selected days. The principal did not approve a permanent change and instead asked staff to prepare a plan considering nutrition, staffing, and privacy.

  • 問31:Two weeks.
  • 問32:Reducing food waste and ensuring enough food.
  • 問33:Request more food.
  • 問34:No.
  • 問37:No.
38:Another month with waste measurements.
39:The school should measure waste while making sure students receive enough food.
40:A school cafeteria tested offering different lunch portion sizes to reduce food waste while meeting students’ needs. Many respondents liked the choice, but the school measured meals served rather than leftovers, so savings remained unproven. The student council proposed another trial with waste measurements, while the principal requested plans addressing nutrition, staffing, and privacy. The proposal has not yet received final approval.

Offering portion choices may help, but the cafeteria should measure actual waste and protect students’ access to sufficient food before making its system permanent.
